"Life is a succession of moments – to live each one is to succeed." (Corita Kent)

Paintings inspired by moments of quiet significance – exploring everyday beauty, time, place and our connection with the natural world.
Hi! I'm Jil - a German contemporary artist based in London.
At my core, I am a romantic first, artist second. I tend to take note of the small stuff, often finding myself romanticising the everyday and seemingly mundane. The Art of Noticing is fundamental to my personal life and artistic practice - most of my paintings are inspired by fleeting moments in time, places I've seen or the people around me; they are direct products of my observations and my most recurrent thought: "That's so beautiful, I need to paint it." I live in perpetual awe of nature's kaleidoscopic beauty and the ways in which we interact with it, and with each other - however briefly or subconsciously. My practice aims to highlight this intimate and quietly powerful humanity in all of our lived, and often shared, experiences.
At 27, after a long, turbulent journey of trying to find my purpose in life, I can finally admit to myself that this is what I'm meant to do. I hope that my work encourages people to see, and actively seek, the beauty in life, in nature and in themselves. I hope that it creates moments of peace and stillness in an often chaotic, even if beautiful, world. And lastly, I hope it inspires joy, strength and optimism in those that connect with it.
